Thomas Wolfe’s Birthday Celebration

October 3, 2015 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

With October comes a special month of activities at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial State Historic Site in Asheville.

The Thomas Wolfe Memorial State Historic Site welcomes you to join in the celebration of Thomas Wolfe’s 115th birthday year. On Saturday October 3rd, 2015 the historic site will offer North Carolina residents free admission to guided tours of Old Kentucky Home beginning at 9:30 am and ending with the last tour at 4:30 pm. There will be birthday cake in the visitor center for all visitors, and an opportunity to explore the downtown through the eyes of Thomas Wolfe.

The Memorial will unveil its new walking tour guide “From Cradle to Grave: Walking in Thomas Wolfe’s Shoes.” In his writings Thomas Wolfe made a concerted effort to make note of all life as he saw it, and to remember every person, place, and event of his childhood. Many of the places of Wolfe’s youth still exist in Asheville. And a self-guided walk around Asheville is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the writer and about local history. The tour book was made possible with funding by the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Advisory Committee, Inc.
booklet
“October had come again, and he would lie there in his mother’s house at night, and feel the darkness moving softly all about him, and hear the dry leaves scampering on the street outside, and the huge and burly rushes of the wind.” Thomas Wolfe
